After Maude-Aimée at the LPGA, here is Étienne Papineau at the PGA this week

AT 9 1/2 WITH MARIO :

During the last two weeks of Maude-Aimée LeBlanc in action at the LPGA, there were many requests from fans to know when a talent from Quebec at the PGA.

Know that this is a matter settled this week, thanks to Étienne Papineau.
Thanks to a card of 67, minus five, Monday at the McCormick club, Papineau passed the very difficult qualifying test and will be at the Phoenix Waste Management Open on Thursday with a purse of $ 8.2 million in scholarships.
He joins big names like Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele among the main ones. His photo is already posted on the official website.

Among the Canadians, Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin, Roger Sloan and Nick Taylor, all trained at Team Canada, are present.

Never easy
Of the approximately 70 contenders, Étienne finished in excellent second place after an extension to six aspirants for only two places available to this very Canadian selection in his results, the first place going to the
Toronto's Ben Silverman.

A new professional and member of Team Canada, Papineau knows the McCormick field well. Confidently, he took the 5th step earlier in January in the Outlaw series. He scored 32 in the first nine. He found himself at minus five in the 10th with another birdie.

He has good nerves having recorded a last bird at the 18th necessary to go in overtime.

Rare moment
The 25-year-old from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu graduated from West Virginia University last year and is a former Quebec champion in juniors and amateurs.

He has three 10th places or better in the Outlaw series in as many starts by adding a 2nd position.
This is a first experience at the PGA as well as a first Quebec participation in the grand tour via the preliminaries, and not an invitation, since Jean-Philip Cornellier at the 2005 Travelers Championship in Hartford.
