JEAN MILLAIRE LEAVES US

Au 9 1/2 with Mario:

Golf in Quebec has lost another of its most respected deans with the passing of Jean
Millaire, André Rousseau tells us.

He contributed greatly to the reputation of the Joliette Golf Club, having been at the helm for twenty years
and ensured the continuation also by yielding his position to Jean Laforce, his assistant at the time.

His career led him to form a trio with André Gagnier, his former boss, and Louis
Michaud, a former Quebec amateur champion, to manage the Carling Lake operation at the height of its prestige.

Jean Millaire was 78 years old. He is survived by his brothers Richard, Michel and Jacques,
former cadets of the Municipal Club in Montreal, who also turned professional.

What people may be surprised to learn is that the brother golfers are nephews of the great
nephews of the great comedian Albert Millaire.
